Can I get a credit for my expenses for adopting a child?

You can claim a credit of up to $10,160 of adoption expenses per child. Also in 2003, you can exclude up to $10,160 of employer-provided adoption assistance per child from your income. The income levels at which the adoption credit are phased out have increased to between $152,390 and $192,390. For 2004, the credit rises to $10,390. The employer assistance exclusion rises to $10,390. The phaseout starts at $155,860 and ends at $195,860.
